Thomas & Wilson
Founded in 1919
Thomas & Wilson prides itself on being a third-generation family firm specialising in superior quality fibrous plasterwork. Founded in 1919, it is one of the oldest such firms in existence. Housed for many years in a distinctive building, once the workshop and studio of the sculptor and artist Henri Gaudier Brzeska, Thomas & Wilson have recently opened a new dedicated workshop complimented by a fine showroom, itself a testimony to the plastering and moulding skills and heritage of the company.
.
Thomas & Wilson’s portfolio of work includes projects as varied as the post-fire renovation of the grand Blackpool Tower Ballroom, the British Museum, external work at the Richmond Riverside for architects Erith & Terry and the remodeled interiors of private houses in which the plasterwork is especially designed using Italian Renaissance and Anglo-Palladian stuccowork as inspiration, Westminster Abbey, and the Queen Mother’s bedroom at Clarence House. Projects have been undertaken in countries as far afield as Saudi Arabia, Guatemala and Switzerland. Fibrous plaster can be used as a means of replicating different periods and styles of work. It is also means of creating small fine detailed work or large clean shapes used in contemporary design.
Our commitment, knowledge and expertise has developed over three generations. The traditional skills and manufacturing processes continue, along with the distinctive character and quality of the hand crafted product. In addition to the manufacture and installation of our range of mouldings, much of our work specialises in the creation of period designs to the requirements of architects and interior designers, and also the restoration of existing ornamental plasterwork.
By taking templates and samples from the existing plasterwork we are able to reproduce it to match the original detail. These mouldings can be supplied and, when required, fitted by our own skilled craftsmen.
We have worked on the restoration of many beautiful traditional buildings alongside involvement with modern contemporary buildings where interesting shapes and designs are required. Our extensive library of mouldings, accumulated over the years, provides a wide range of patterns and styles, the majority of which are detailed in this catalogue along with the product references. Our materials produce a high quality cast which remains unaffected by time and weather.
